Leica M6

Rangefinder illustration | Sofware: Affinity | 2024

The Leica M6 is a fully mechanical 35mm rangefinder camera, introduced in 1984, that refined the classic M-series formula by integrating a through-the-lens light meter without compromising the simplicity and durability that defined earlier models. With its brass top plate, cloth focal-plane shutter, and uncluttered manual controls, the M6 became a favourite among documentary and street photographers who valued reliability, discretion, and direct engagement with the photographic process. In 2022, Leica re-released the M6, built in Wetzlar and visually faithful to the original, while incorporating subtle updates such as a modernised light meter and improved viewfinder coatings.
